Update on the spam situation

Postby friolator » Fri Feb 10, 2012 9:44 am

As you may have noticed, the spammers are hitting this board daily, multiple times a day. I check it constantly to delete their messages, but it's just getting worse.

As a result, I have added a new verification method for new users to the registration process that I hope will slow them down.

In the mean time, I was wondering what you all think about requiring administrator approval before new users can post? This would mean I'd need to look into every user as they register, but I do that now anyway. I have ways of determining if they're a likely spammer or not. The downside is that if a new legitimate user has an emergency and needs an answer on deadline, they're going to have to wait until I get the notification of new registration, to approve them.

What do you guys think?
